Dojang Cleaning Day - February 17

In preparation for Black Belt testing, and our seminar in March, I'd like to organize a Dojang Cleaning Day. This will be held on Saturday, February 17, after 10:30am class. We'll start around 11:45am. There is a mop in the dojang, but having more than one might help, along with rags and buckets. There are cleaning supplies at the dojang, so we should be ok on those.

Please bring a few dollars so that we can order some Pizza and Pop (or "soda" for all you non-Pittsburgh natives!) once we've accomplished some cleaning.
Thanks in advance for your support!

Team Patterns at Red Tiger Cup

I'd like to try Team Patterns at this year's Red Tiger Cup, so I'm looking for 4-5 other students to join me, male or female, Black Belt or Red-Stripes (who are testing in March).

"Teams consisting of 4-6 students will compete against one another in the team patterns competition on Saturday or Sunday morning. Beginner Teams, Blue stripe and lower will compete on SATURDAY morning. Advanced Teams consisting of Blue belts and Higher will compete on SUNDAY morning.

Advanced teams may include both Male and Female competitors. Both teams will perform ONE PATTERN of their choice with the winners moving on to the next round."  read more »

Tournament Tips

Since Ive done quite a few tournaments, I thought Id post some things Ive learned. These are general tips - not so much competition strategy tips...see Sabumnim for that type of advice. Please add your own comments, suggestions, etc.

1. Judging in tournaments, much like life itself, is not always fair. Judges are human and they make mistakes. Its frustrating, when they dont see points scored or they give higher placed trophies to competitors whose performance seemed inferior to yours. My advice is to learn from their mistakes, so that when that day comes that you are a judge in a tournament, youll be prepared.  read more »

Race for the Cure on May 14

If anyone is interested in forming a team to run the Komen Race for the Cure (to raise funds for Breast Cancer) please let me know. The other option is no formal team, just having a group of people from the school meet and do the course together. The 5K run/walk is held the morning of Mother's Day, May 14. The race goes through Schenley Park, then through nearby neighborhoods, then winds through the Park again. It's a great workout, especially the last leg which is mostly uphill. What better way to get a last cardio session in before the Red Tiger Tournament! See Nancy Donnelly if you're interested, or just want to donate to the cause.  read more »
