EUI-AM TUL
Eui-Am is the pseudonym of Son Byong Hi, leader of the Korean independence movement on March 1, 1919. The 45 movements refer to his age when he changed the name of Dong Hak (Oriental culture) to Chondo Kyo (Heavenly way religion) in 1905. The diagram represents his Indomitable Spirit, displayed while dedicating himself to the prosperity of his nation.
CHOONG-JANG TUL
Choong-Jang is the pseudonym given to General Kim Duk Ryang who lived during the Lee Dynasty, 14th century. This pattern ends with a left-hand attack to symbolize the tragedy of his death at 27 in prison before he was able to reach full maturity.
JUCHE TUL
Juche is a philosophical idea that man is the master of everything and decides everything. In other words, the idea that man is the master of the world and his own destiny. It is said that this idea was rooted in Baekdu Mountain which symbolizes the spirit of the Korean people. The diagram represents Baekdu mountain.
Pre-arranged self-defense techniques against 2 attackers (15 attacks minimum). Must utilize takedowns, wrist locks, joint locks, etc.
Attacking and defending with the feet.
Flying consecutive kicking and hand techniques (2 different kicks with the same leg and one hand strike. All must be performed in mid-air)
Flying combination kicking techniques (2 different kicks with different legs)
Flying triple kicking techniques
360 flying downward kick (inward and outward)
Back snap kick
Against 2-3 Attackers
Men:
Power (one of the following):
6 boards – Any standing kick
4 boards – Any flying or mid-air kick
Hands (one of the following):
3-4 boards – Any hand strike (Power break)
2-3 boards – Any hand strike (Speed break)
Technique (one of the following):
1 board each target – Any flying consecutive or combination kicking technique (2 or 3 targets)
Women and Juniors:
Power (one of the following):
3-4 boards – Any standing kick
2-3 boards – 360 flying back kick
Hands (one of the following):
2 boards – Any hand strike (Power break)
1 board – Any hand strike (Speed break)
Technique (one of the following):
1 board each target – Any flying consecutive or combination kicking technique (2 targets)
Pee Wees (Ages 8 – 11):
2 boards – Any standing or flying kicking technique
1 board (1/2” wood) each target – Any flying consecutive or combination kicking technique (2 targets)
1 board – Any hand technique
You will be required to answer the following:
- Meaning and movements of CHOONG-JANG, EUI-AM, JUCHE
- Explain the philosophy of Taekwon-Do
- Meaning of the Patterns (Why are there 24 Patterns?)
- Student / Instructor Relationship (Instructor and Student versions)
- Minimum of 3 years as a Black Belt (2nd Dan).
- Attendance in 80% of Black Belt classes (must submit attendance sheet).
- Participation in at least 2 USTC recommended tournaments per year.
- 20 hours of community service (documented on the organization’s official letterhead).
- Two-page personal history (typed). Include why you began training, where and how it has affected your personal life (positively / negatively).
- Attendance in one USTC seminar per year.
ALL CANDIDATES MUST HAVE A USTC MEMBERSHIP PRIOR TO TESTING!
ALL REQUIREMENTS MUST BE SATISFIED.
