KWANG GAE TUL
Kwang-Gae is named after the famous Kwang-Gae-Toh-Wang, the 19th King of the Koguryo Dynasty, who regained all the lost territories including the greater part of Manchuria. The diagram represents the expansion and recovery of lost territory. The 39 movements refer to the first two figures of 391 A. D., the year he came to the throne.
PO-EUN TUL
Po-Eun is the pseudonym of a loyal subject Chong Mong-Chu (1400) who was a famous poet and whose poem "I would not serve a second master though I might be crucified a hundred times" is known to every Korean. He was also a pioneer in the field of physics. The diagram represents his unerring loyalty to the king and country towards the end of the Koryo Dynasty.
GE-BAEK TUL
Ge-Baek is named after Ge-Baek, a great general in the Baek Je Dynasty (660 AD). The diagram represents his severe and strict military discipline.
Pre-arranged self-defense techniques against 1 attacker (10 attacks). Must utilize takedowns, wrist locks, joint locks, etc.
Free attacks. Defending and counterattacking with techniques from all patterns up to and including GE-BAEK.
Flying twin foot high kick
Flying two direction kick (split kick)
Flying combination kicking (2 different kicks with different legs)
Flying consecutive kicking (2 different kicks with the same leg)
Consecutive kicking (3 different kicks with the same leg without jumping)
Against 2 Attackers
Men:
Power (one of the following):
5 boards – Any standing kick
4 boards – Any flying or mid-air kick
3 boards – 360 flying back kick
Hands (one of the following):
3-4 boards – Reverse punch or knife hand strike (Power break)
2-3 boards – Reverse punch or knife hand strike (Speed break)
Technique (one of the following):
1 board each target – Any flying consecutive or combination kicking technique (2 targets)
Women and Juniors:
Power (one of the following):
3-4 boards – Any standing kick
2-3 boards – 360 flying back kick
Hands (one of the following):
2 boards – Any hand strike (Power break)
1 board – Any hand strike (Speed break)
Technique (one of the following):
1 board (1/2” wood) each target – Any flying consecutive or combination kicking technique (2 targets)
Pee Wees (Ages 8 – 11):
2 boards – Any standing or flying kicking technique
1 board (1/2” wood) each target – Any flying consecutive or combination kicking technique (2 targets)
1 board – Any hand technique
You will be required to answer the following:
- Meaning and number of movements of each pattern
- Knowledge of all the blocking and striking techniques in the patterns from CHON-JI to GE-BAEK
- Theory of Power
- Meaning of the Patterns (Why are there 24 Patterns?)
- Minimum of 2 years as a Black Belt (1st Dan).
- Attendance in 80% of Black Belt classes (must submit attendance sheet).
- Participation in at least 2 USTC recommended tournaments per year.
- 15 hours of community service (documented on the organization’s official letterhead).
- Two-page personal history (typed). Include why you began training, where and how it has affected your personal life (positively/negatively).
- Attendance in one USTC seminar per year.
ALL CANDIDATES MUST HAVE A USTC MEMBERSHIP PRIOR TO TESTING!
ALL REQUIREMENTS MUST BE SATISFIED.
